Many years of consistency in building a brand, unique atmosphere, professional production and both extensive and diverse program are the main features of Ostróda Reggae Festival, the leading Polish event associated with the musical vibrations originating from Jamaica.
ORF is a continuation of Ost-Rock Festival organized in Ostróda in the 80's. In its current shape the festival takes place since 2001. During 12 editions of Ostróda Reggae Festival more than 500 artists, including about 200 from abroad, performed on 3 festival stages for about 10.000 people every year. Key artists of the world’s reggae scene: Stephen Marley, Morgan Heritage, Max Romeo, Misty in Roots, Steel Pulse, Dub Inc. to name a few, rocked Ostróda’s Red Stage. You could see the top bands shaping the Polish reggae scene - Bakshish, Daab, Habakuk or Izrael. Widely known Junior Stress, Vavamuffin, EastWest Rockers, Jamal or Tabu made their first steps in Ostróda. Open music formula of the festival was confirmed with the shows of bands like Dreadzone or Fat Freddy's Drop - well-established artists with their popularity going much further than just the reggae scene.
Ostróda Reggae Festival has a reputation of a creative event, always promoting original artists still unknown in Poland and educating through a series of side activities, not to be seen on such scale at any other Polish reggae festival.
Essential parts of ORF are young Polish reggae bands contest, movies, dance workshops and educational meetings and exhibitions.
Participants of the festival is mainly youth seeking and focused on positive values. Adding safe environment & pro-family organization combined with reggae music being intergenerational, there is increasing interest from mature audience, often visiting the festival with their families. With the festival’s international recognition growing, the number of foreign audience is growing too - thanks to both mouth to mouth communication and collaboration with the world's biggest reggae portals like Reggaeville.com.
The audience support is reflected in the honorable title of "Musical Event of the Year", awarded annually since 2005 by several thousand readers of the only Polish reggae magazine "Free Colours". The festival promoters also regularly enjoy "Reggae Person of the Year in Poland" title there. Ostróda Reggae Festival won „reggae event 2009” voting in RMF (main Polish commercial radio station).
More than 20K fans on Facebook locates Ostróda in the first place among the most popular reggae events in Poland.
The festival cooperates with big Polish media such as TVP 2 (Polish National Television), Polish National Radio, main portal Onet.pl and leading newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza.
In 2012 ORF was a place for the official Polish celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Jamaica's independence under the official patronage of the Embassy of Jamaica in Berlin and the Jamaican Honorary Consul in Poland.
The festival does not stay away from new technologies and moves with the times. There is a lot of multimedia on the festival’s stages. In 2011 as one of the first Polish festivals ORF launched a dedicated free app for Android / Iphone.
Thanks to close work with the City Promotion Dept, Ostróda gradually changes its image to the "capital of Polish reggae". One of the interesting ideas that were born out of this collaboration is a change of the town’s coat of arms to more "red, golden and green".
Ostróda with its great location in the middle of Masuria, Poland – the land of 1000 lakes. Known as "Pearl of Masuria" is considered one of the most attractive places for water sports and inland tourism. Local hotel infrastructure is exceptionally developed.
