THE WISDOM BAND (Great Britain)

The Wisdom Band story begins in London in the politically turbulent early eighties. From the very start the group was playing a lot of concerts and working as a backing band for many Jamaican artists (Barrington Levy, Michael Palmer, Ranking Trevor, Jah Thomas, Bunny Li Li, Capitan Sinbad, Musical Youth) touring in the UK. Over the years the band has played at numerous venues throughout Europe and Africa, but never in Poland. Their newest hitty single “Migration Season” announces the new album.

In 1985 The Wisdom Band released their first single “Klung Klusion”. Since that time the band started to be recognized, not only in UK, but also abroad. They were invited to East Germany as one of the first reggae crews to feel the vibe beyond the iron curtain. They also went to Ghana – touring with legendary Musical Youth.
The Wisdom Band recorded the album “Signs of the time” in 1986. The single promoting the album was “Prisoner”, which made 4th in HIT LIST UK and opened new roads towards worldwide reggae listeners. The same year the band went on tour in Africa.
Over the years, the band has played at numerous venues throughout the UK, Western Europe and Scandinavia. Wherever they played in Europe tickets were sold out, and especially in Germany they are continuing to have a huge following.
In 1990 another single “When the Old Flames Burn” was released. Wisdom went touring again. Numerous gigs all over the world were a chance for the group to perform alongside many major reggae acts, including the legendary Bunny Wailer, Twinkle Brothers, Jah Shaka, Misty in Roots, Aswad, Burning Spear Dennis Brown, Muta Baruka, Morgan Heritage, Shabba Ranks, Maxi Priest, Black Uhuru,Gladiators and Julian Marley.
In the meantime they recorded another single in 1994, titled “Son Don’t Take Your Gun to Town” after which they did the renowned “Africa Stadium Tour ‘94”.
After a break, the band released “Who Feels It” in 2001. After its premiere, the band started playing successive series of concerts touring with Morgan Heritage in UK (2002) and abroad. Relics of that time were two albums: “Mothers Against Guns Tour Live” and “Wisdom Live”, both released in 2003.
In 2007, The Wisdom Band went to Ghana in order to finish an important circle in their creative works with their ‘The Coming Home Tour” with the Mighty Diamonds.
Marcus Million and Benji Benjahman are now back in the studio in London and working on fresh material for an album full of heart, soul and roots reggae music due in 2011. Their newest single “Migration Season” was released in Autumn 2010 by Soundflower Music.
