The 11th edition of Ostróda Reggae Festival has just ended. Even though we still haven't managed to calm down after several months of intense work, we want to share with you our feelings and conclusions from this years event...
This year the festival attracted about 10.000 people which is similar to last year’s attendance. The town pulsated with positive music, which could be heard everywhere. Everyone could feel the joyful atmosphere generated by you – the festival participants.
The public services did not record any serious law violations or injuries. We had good luck with the weather and the new location of the official camp site worked well. We improved the power feed for the stages and avoided any power cuts. The festival ran according to plan without any changes in the lineup.
We were very pleased with the artistic quality of this edition – both of the artists performing on our red and green stages and the young reggae bands participating in the contest at the pier. We want to congratulate the contest winners – 'Make Progress' and we are very happy to help them in furthering their career.
Like everyone, we have our favourite shows and artists but with great interest we also read your post-festival reviews. We enjoyed the fact that apart from unquestionable stars, who confirmed their class at Ostróda, you have also noticed the potential in the artists previously unknown in Poland. Your feedback was always hot, friendly and cultural. We will definitely use your opinions when programming the next edition.
There isn’t a more vibrant dancing spot in Poland than our sound system stage, which this year definitely didn't leave anyone disappointed.
Another year of high participation in the Reggae University confirmed the idea of meeting with authorities in this field as just right. Our great foreign guests Mad Professor and Roger Steffens will definitely spread the word about the real interest and knowledge of the Polish reggae audience. We were happy to receive many congratulations and acknowledgments from foreign artists from distant lands. We are proud of you!
However, we would also like to request that some festival participants realize that it is essential to pay the cost of entrance to the festival. It's continuation relies on the income raised at the gate. If you like Ostróda Reggae Festival, please support it, not simply with words!
Far from considering ourselves a perfect organisation we admit to mistakes with a promise to improve in the future. There will be no more monopoly for any catering companies and you will be able to enjoy a variety of catering stalls in a 'free market' economy. The promises made to us were not fulfilled and this lead us to make an incorrect decision. We apologize for this.
The list of people we would like to thank for their participation in the giant project named Ostróda Reggae Festival 2011 is very long indeed. As always, we would not be able to continue without major support of Ostróda Local Council and the town's inhabitants. They see the potential in the Festivals presence in this beautiful place, Masuria.
We also could not make it happen without the valuable contribution of many volunteers and people of good will.
The support of many media organizations and the presence of almost 100 journalists and photographers was very important and motivating for us.
We want to thank Toi Camp for their perfect organisation of the camp site, technical crews for the stages, all companies and private people who collaborated with us.
We are thankful to all the numerous people in front of the stage who screamed “reggae!” in answer to the “Ostróda” keyword. Nothing can give us greater joy and a feeling of achievement than your smiling faces, happy dancing and friendly comments. Each of us is different – we are divided by our age, origin, sometimes even by language or skin colour but under a red, gold and green flag we all unite to express our love for this beautiful music and its positive message.
It was a great time and we, like you, will always remember it fondly.
Nothing else remains to be done but start counting down again towards next year.
