World Reggae Contest finalists known!

As a result of fans’ voting the following bands have been qualified to the World Reggae Contest final stage: Chainska Brassika (UK), Dubska (Poland), Nova Raiz (Brazil), Shanty (UK) and The Banyans (France).
They will perform at the Red Stage of Ostróda Reggae Festival on August 8th. The whole world will be able to watch them thanks to live video stream through Reggaeville.com
Soon the order of performances will be drawn and the Festival promoters will present international jury that will chose the winner. The best band will be awarded with flights to Jamaica and a recording session at Harry J Studios in Kingston plus a financial award.
The voting enjoyed great interest - over 5000 fans from around the world participated.
"The concept, which matured for some time and was brought to life  this year, made a new level in international reggae competitions. We are happy of many artists and fans’ support, as well as of very high artistic level of the finalists who will perform in Ostróda” – says the Festival director Piotr „Piter” Kolaj.

 
CHAINSKA BRASSIKA
UK

Originally school ska band formed in South East London under the guidance of inspirational music teacher and with some practice in the choir at Southwark Cathedral. Supported The Skatalites, Madness, Gentleman’s Dub Club, Easy Star All Stars, performed at Glastonbury Festival, Boomtown Fair, Bestival, Notting Hill Carnival. In 2013 Chainska Brassika released their debut EP „Unwind”, championed by David Rodigan. Their new single „Bad Habits” is the first from the forthcoming album.

DUBSKA
Poland

Formed in Bydgoszcz, Poland, in 1999, they released their first official album in 2005. Their third and latest output is „Loko-Loko”, considered one of the most interesting Polish reggae albums of 2010. Dubska’s music is an exploration of reggae as a dominant force, plus some ska, blues, accoustic ballad and disco. With strong status in Poland counted in hundreds of shows as well as with performances in Greece, Russia, Germany, Austria and Czech.

NOVA RAÍZ
Brazil

The founders of Jah Live band started Nova Raiz as their another musical project in 2011. Jah Live perfomed throughout the country and in Europe, won the award "The Best of Reggae 2003" as "Best Group". In 2012 their recorded their first album "Desapego" and made it available for free on the web. In 2014 they performed Spain and were featured on international compilation “Escoita!“.  Same year Bruno Dourado, a great percussionist of Natiruts, the biggest reggae band from Brazil, started to play with Nova Raíz.

SHANTY
UK

Hailing from London Town, this is stomping bass, soulful hooks and party vibes’, with cross influences ranging from soul, electronic and hip-hop. Already championed by David Rodigan and with shows at Glastonbury, Boomtown Fair, Secret Garden Party, Leopallooza & dozens more. They shared the stage with genre-mates The Skints, Prince Fatty and Neville Staple of The Specials, who they kicked off their 2013 tour supporting. Their debut EP was titled “Leave Me Out”.

THE BANYANS
France

It's a universal message based on today's realities but driven by the spirit of 70's Jamaican reggae. Both roots and modern, carrying hope and commitment, The Banyans spread their original music since 2010. Thanks to the success of their first album "Steppin’ Forward" (2013), the band from Toulouse toured through France and Europe (more than 400 shows in 5 years). In 2014 they supported Alborosie in the best French venues. 2015 means their new album “For Better Days”, the outcome of an artistic and human adventure that brought them to Jamaica to record with Johnny Osbourne, Big Youth and Maranto.
